Doug Fir Lounge & Bar In Portland, Oregon
Skylab continues to create some of the most compelling spaces, while Portland just keeps getting better and better for gastronomy, and live music. Skylab, a local Portland architect firm whose earlier designs in Portland include the futuristic hair salon Sugar, and the dark and glamorous chinese restaurant called East.
The Doug Fir Lounge is their most recent creation, and it's a stunner. They serve great food, but it's also an incredible live music venue. The 800 metres of douglas fir logs that hoist up floor-to-ceiling glass walls make this is a unique rock venue and a notable addition to Portland's urban scene. It's like a northwestern truck stop reinvented by people who are fanatical about design.
Doug Fir Lounge [Website]
"We chose one hotel bar per city, places where the bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly, where the bar is frequented by locals (a sure sign of quality), but where you won't find strobe lights or novelty drinks with glowing straws. The hotels themselves had to be located near the city's center and have several corporate clients.
The next time you're out of town, may we suggest a nightcap at one of these forty bars. Which city makes a meaner martini, Seoul or Cairo? You decide."
