Star Alliance Lounges

If you routinely fly first class, business class or have a Star Alliance Gold card, chances are you've wandered into a Star Alliance Lounge at some point. However, as more and more carriers look for ways to retain their top customers, airport lounges are getting more sophisticated and luxurious.

Star Alliance which many Canadians are familiar with due to Air Canada being a member launched one of their first branded lounges in Zurich Switzerland back in August 2001 and the Zurich lounge has been used as a template for all subsequent Star Alliance Lounges that have been built since. The lounge in Zurich was designed by Toronto architects Kuwabara, Payne, McKenna and Blumberg who had to win the design concept contest to be awarded the contract. The lounge is a spacious 2000 feet, featuring extensive use of natural stone and wood in particular walnut and birch, as well as woven metal screens. The theme is that of an urban garden. For some customers, the lounge is a place of calm in a busy airport where they can rest, relax and recharge. For others, it is a place of ongoing business where they can work and stay in touch with the world. The lounge seating is comfortable, casual and elegant and offers a mix of high-quality classic and contemporary Italian furniture design. A separate section of the business class area is reserved for workstation desks equipped with internet connections, telephones and fax machines.

When booking your next trip for business or pleasure, consider access to an exclusive airport lounge a big bonus. It can be a great way to break up a long trip or remain productive at work when the chaos of travel delays and lengthy stopovers threaten to stress you out.
