Make a grand entrance into Venice

By Dana McMahan
Water taxi into Venice Forewarning: this is a Splurge (yes, with a capital 'S').

Travellers to Venice have a few options for getting from the airport to their hotel. Most involve lugging your luggage on and off various forms of transport, but most end the same -- on a boat. Why not skip all that and go right to the boat?

A water taxi into Venice is one of the outstanding travel experiences left in the world. For 20 minutes the wind scrubs your jet-lag away while you approach one of the most beautiful cities on earth. Anticipation builds as you cruise closer and closer until you burst into the Grand Canal and find yourself in the center of a dream.

And the total convenience is just a bonus. Your boat driver will deliver you to the door of your hotel or inn, taking you through shaded canals along the way you'd never otherwise have a peek at.

Water taxi to VeniceThis grand entrance doesn't come cheap -- plan to spend about 100 euros. But if you are travelling with friends, or can hook up with someone on the airplane, you can share the cost.

Visit Durant & Cheryl Imboden's Venice for Visitors for details on how take a water taxi from the airport.
