Important Canadian Passport Information
Remember, the passport is the recommended travel and identification document for all Canadian travelers, and is necessary if you want to visit a foreign country.
If you are a frequent traveler, you may think that you already know all you need to about passports and the importance they hold, but just to refresh your memory and help out those who have not yet gone through for for their passport, here is some crucial information that will help get you started.
If you are looking to do some traveling in the near future, you are going to want to get your passport as soon as possible. As long as you have your passport in hand at the time of your trip you should be fine, but it is generally best to get it a few months before because it will save you time at customs and just make things easier on you in general.
The first step to getting your passport will require you to get the application form. You can find this form in many government offices, and you can also go online and print it off.
There is quite a bit of information that you are going to need to have available and submit with the application when you send it back, so be prepared.
You will need to fill out some personal information at first including the basics such as name, address, and birthplace.
You will also need some proof of citizenship, proof of identity, and will be required to pay certain fees.
As well you are going to need to get a passport photo to send in with your application, keeping in mind that a considerable number of photos are rejected due to common, avoidable errors.
To significantly decrease the time taken to get your passport, you want to be especially careful with the picture you send in for your passport application.
Two identical photos are required for each passport, produced from the same film, and make sure that you are posed correctly.
Here are a few of the most common reasons your picture would not be accepted:
The photos must be taken against a plain white background, so that your features are clearly distinguishable against the background. Eyes must be clearly open and visible, and no pictures can be copies.
Finally, you will need a guarantor, who will also have to sign your photos. After this, you should be ready to submit your passport application, and be prepared for it to take anywhere from four to six weeks until you hear back.
Now on the other hand, if you already have your passport and are just concerned with when and how to renew it, and just remember that you can usually get the process completed quickest if you do it online.
The government will not just renew your passport automatically, so this is something that is up to you and of great importance.
You never want to leave something as important as your passport down to the last minute when you are planning to travel, so make sure that you always keep yourself up to date on the relevant information and take care of these sorts of issues plenty of time ahead.
