Dollar got you down? At least you can save some money on your guidebooks

I love guidebooks. I can't bear to part with any that I've accumulated over the years. There's probably a small fortune sitting on my bookshelves in Rick Steves, Frommers and DK guides. We won't even talk about the stacks of books from the Friends of the Library sale where I snap up every guidebook I can find -- after all, I never know where I may go next.

But those shiny dream-inducing books carry an ever-increasing hefty price tag. Many guidebooks top $20 or $25. Especially if you're visiting several destinations on one trip, that cost can get to be a bit much.

I learned today about free pdf-format arrival guides that may just help with your pre-trip budget. There doesn't appear to be a catch -- you don't even have to provide your name or email address. Just read it and download for printing. Visit ArrivalGuides.com to get snappy little guides to more than 300 destinations worldwide. For destinations from Bucharest to Broomer, Killarney to Kuala Lumpur, the guides (available in multiple languages) offer concise information (including prices) on topics like: The City, Do & See, Cafes, Eating, Bars & Nightlife, Shopping, Sleeping, and Essential Information.

While I can't give up my book collection, I'll be supplementing it with these guides in the future.
