Biarritz2.jpgCatching A Wave In Biarritz

"At 10:30 a.m. on a sunny Wednesday in Biarritz, the promenade above the Grande Plage was still sleepy, cafe chairs piled up in leaning towers, umbrellas closed like seed pods. The long beach below was empty apart from an elderly couple taking an early constitutional and some sandpipers skittering along the water's edge.

But out from the sandy shore, seven shiny, black figures bobbed on the waves. Suddenly, as the surf swelled and blue water turned to white froth, the shiny, black figures were up on their pointy long boards - in the crouched, arms-out silhouette much more familiar to Hawaiian islands than fancy French resort towns."
