Are you going home to Scotland?
By Dana McMahan
Never let it be said the Scots don't know how to throw a party. In 2009 the country celebrates the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth with a year-long party. They are inviting everyone worldwide with a Scottish ancestry (and really, isn't that all of us to some degree?) to join them for the festivities.
The biggest bash takes place in Edinburgh next July with The Gathering, one of the largest clan gatherings in history. Highland Games in Holyrood park (think bagpipes, kilts and demonstrations of brute strength) will give way to a massive parade up the Royal Mile. The weekend's events conclude with a clan pageant at Edinburgh Castle's esplanade. If you loved Braveheart or have dreamed over Scottish historical novels, you can't miss this.

Then go find out more at the Gathering website and the Homecoming website. And let's hope the U.S. dollar keeps it recent gains on the pound.
